A Cross-platform Unified Smart Home Platform-Matter

A Cross-platform Unified Smart Home Platform-Matter

Matter is Apple's announcement of a cross-platform unified smart home platform based on HomeKit. Apple says connectivity and absolute security are at the heart of Matter, and that it will maintain the highest level of security in the smart home, with private data transfers by default. The first version of Matter will support a variety of smart home products such as lighting, HVAC controls, curtains, safety and security sensors, door locks, media devices and so on.

For the current smart home market's biggest bottleneck problem, some industry insiders bluntly, the current smart home products do not solve the deep-seated rigid demand problem, such as smart lock instead of mechanical lock, smart phone instead of key mobile phone, sweeper instead of broom, these are subversive demand, and at present we say smart home, only focus on lighting, curtain control, etc. The functionality that can be achieved is not systematic.

In other words, at present, many manufacturers use single access smart home, most of the "point to point" connection, the scene is relatively early stage, single ecology, complex control, passive intelligence, security is not high, and various problems occur frequently, but can not further realize the smart home extended to office, entertainment and learning and other attributes of the functional requirements. In the contradiction between high user expectation and product intelligence separation, not only the user experience needs to be improved, but also hinder the further development of the whole house intelligence.

Matter is an Internet of Things standard designed to improve the interoperability of smart devices between brands, so HomeKit devices can be used alongside other smart home devices from Google, Amazon and others. Matter works over Wi-Fi, which allows smart home devices to communicate with the cloud, and Thread, which provides energy-efficient and reliable mesh networks in the home.

In May,2021, the CSA Alliance officially launched the Matter standard brand, which was the first time that Matter appeared in the public eye.

Apple's HomeKit platform is natively working with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit to add controls whenever a device supports Matter.

Just imagine, when users purchase a set of smart home products that support the Matter protocol, no matter iOS users, Android users, Mijia users or Huawei users can operate seamlessly with each other and there is no ecological barrier anymore. The improvement of the current smart home ecological experience is subversive.
